Scholarship: Fall 2021

Donna Hansen Peterson
Memorial Scholarship

On 14 August 2021 we announced the first winner of the Donna Hansen Peterson Memorial Scholarship. Congratulations to Jenny Rizzo Irwin, a wonderful recipient who has been actively advancing her skills by taking advantage of a variety of educational opportunities!

The members of the Facebook group, “Book Club at Gena’s House,” and the Applied Genealogy Institute (AppGen) were excited to be able to offer this scholarship in honor of recently deceased book club member, friend and genealogist, Donna Hansen Peterson.

Founding member of the book club, Gena Philibert-Ortega, explained that the scholarship for this inaugural institute was an obvious choice because Donna was passionate about education and took every opportunity she could to improve her genealogical research skills. “We wanted our memory of Donna to make a difference to a genealogist eager to expand their education and the scholarship was a perfect fit,” said Gena Philibert-Ortega.

The scholarship will pay for one person to attend any course at the Applied Genealogy Institute. We are honored to be able to provide this opportunity.
